RadioApp helping community radio

Northern Village is proud to be working with campus and community radio stations to improve the back-end management.  Our goal is to help stations improve their operations and make better use of technology. Our SOCAN and CRTC compliant online logging tool, RadioApp, was originally developed for CFRC / Queen’s Radio in Kingston to update their logging system so that they could enter the information online and share programming with visitors to their website.  RadioApp is now available for subscription to all stations in Canada.

RadioApp helps community radio stations in three main ways:

  • Manage all Programs and Timeslots in one place giving visitors to their website an up-to-date schedule, and also detailed information about each show with a description, links to social media and a list of archives (if that is implemented)
  • Easily log shows, while administrators can download logs and generate their reports for regulators. This is made easier with a CSV upload of logs, or integration with playout systems or audio recognition software
  • Customize the look and feel of the Schedule and Program pages, so that it can seamlessly be integrated into a station's website, including a radio player that is available throughout the website.

Northern Village is thrilled to be a partner with the National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA), and looks forward to collaborating to find ways to improve the effectiveness of campus and community radio in Canada, especially given the general media market. Northern Village was offered the opportunity to demo RadioApp at the NCRA's Annual Conference, and engage in discussion with members about managing the many layers of a radio station. We continue to take inspiration from the amazing work that is being done.

Importance of Community Radio

We believe that campus and community radio can fill the void that is being left by the loss of local newspapers and local television, and look forward to working in the sector to make that happen.

Much of this enthusiasm and commitment comes back to Northern Village being a B Corp, so we are guided by a “village approach” where we work with the talents of our clients and partners to create collaborative solutions that best meet the needs of the communities we serve.
