Be Drift Aware is a collaborative site designed to raise awareness and promote best practices to help reduce spray drift in Ontario. This initiative brings together a wealth of existing knowledge, resources and tools to encourage the use of best application practices by farmers and spray operators, and was created by Grain Farmers of Ontario, Ontario Federation of Agriculture, Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and CropLife Canada.

The Challenge

Spray drift is an issue farmers and farm organizations are working to limit because of the consequences drift can have on crop yield, crop quality and input costs. Spray drift, or the off-target movement of crop protection products, can also have negative impacts on neighbouring fields, livestock, sensitive natural habitats, and can cause tension with neighbours. The coalition of groups was interested in creating a resource hub to share best practices and provide resources and information for farmers and spray operators.

The Solution

Northern Village created an educational reference website that features a quiz to test the participant on their knowledge of spray drift. The results with answers are presented to the user and results are emailed to the administrators for compilation to allow them to identify needs for future educational campaigns.
