B Local Ontario Update
B Local Ontario is a group of Certified B Corporations from Ontario working to foster and deepen connections among organizations in our region who share purpose and passion for using business as a force for good. B Local Ontario works to provide certification support for aspiring and existing B Corps, connections for growth opportunities, and collaboration around social & environmental impact.
The Challenge
For many years B Local Ontario operated as an informal group, but in February 2023, a group wanted to have it operate more formally. As a result, in May 2023 B Local Ontario was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in Ontario. The more formal structure needed an improved website to showcase events, to gather signatures for Advocacy, (such as saving the Greenbelt) or to take Memberships.
The Solution
Northern Village created the new website with volunteers from the B Local Ontario Marketing Committee. It provides an overview of being a B Corp, a sortable list of B Corps registered in Ontario as well as a profile of the Board Members. There is a listing of upcoming events. Initiatives such as the Save the Greenbelt campaign solicit signatures through Formstack. The Membership software is provided by Zeffy, (a B Corp based in Quebec), with a unique model that allows 100% of the membership fees and donations to be kept by the organization while not charging anything for the software.
