Canadian Latvian Virtual Museum
Canadian Latvian Virtual Museum, a project of LNAK (the Latvian National Federation in Canada), is a website aimed at sharing the stories of the Latvian community in Canada.
The Challenge
LNAK is wanting to document share the stories of the Latvian community in Canada -- starting with the road to Canada, the early years and life of the community through organizations, song festivals and advocacy. It was important to create a way to receive resources (images, documents and video) with the associated stories. The different sections do have different amount of material, so there was a need to have different formats while keeping a unified design overall.
The Solution
Northern Village first created a website for the express purpose of gathering materials. A Formstack form was create to upload materials, and to describe the significance of each. Once enough material was collected, work with the archivist to assemble the material, and training for them to upload new material themselves, and put it into a new website. The new website includes the ability to upload additional materials to expand the stories of Latvians in Canada.
